TOPSHOP Lipstick Rio Rio

June 23, 2012

My first Topshop lipstick (Rio Rio) was bought because of Zoella (http://schoee.blogspot.sg/) and her bright lips! Loved that it looked so pow-wow yet it doesn't look too over the top. It's a real dilemma, wearing red lipstick in a humid country because its quite troublesome. I sweat on most days outside and sweating makes you want to touch your face! With a bright lip colour on, that is just a no-no (imagine the mess)!

Nonetheless, the lipstick looks too gorgeous on her to give up. So I went and bought Rio Rio.

Satin matte finish lipstick to smooth, hydrate and nourish lips. Apply for fabulous colour and moisturised, matte finish, wear alone or with gloss for a shiny finish. (Topshop.com)

Rio Rio is a bright red lipstick that runs quite warm and a little orange-y. It is rather pigmented, one coat would give you colour but to get the colour true to the tube, a couple of coats would be enough. It does give a satin matte finish (I would rather a full matte) and perhaps that is the reason it's not extremely drying.

If you're looking for a true red lipstick, Rio Rio may not be for you.

For a country that's not too hot on bright lips, Rio Rio could be considered as a daring attempt. How I wish Singapore was more into red lips! ><

A normal TOPSHOP lipstick costs SG$19, a little more than 8 pounds converted.

Here is Rio Rio compared to two other 'redder' lipsticks:

Really Red is, well, really red. It is a classic red lipstick that adds that glamourous pop to your makeup! It is a Revlon Matte lipstick. Stiletto is not far off being the 'bluer' counterpart. It has the most matte finish but is creamy when applied, not dry!

Overall, Rio is a great summer colour that wakes up the face and make you feel young again (no kidding), but its important to pay attention not to wipe your face subconsciously. Joker anyone?

Birthday Post!

June 21, 2012

5th of June was my birthday and I was very blessed to have received many great gifts from my family and friends!

Fi, who knows I love my makeup got me a superb goodie bag. It was more than I hoped for! Quite some Philosophy products (which are mad expensive in Singapore) and other little goodies! Thank you loads :D

There is a full sized Purity 3-in-1 cleanser, which I loved from the sample I got; a travel kit with the same cleanser, Hope in a jar moisturizer and a sachet of eye gel; Banila co. SPF and highlighter; Shiseido hand cream and blotting paper; Watson's hand cream in pomergranate and ginger; not forgetting the Philosophy badge. Gorgeous goodie bag, I love Fi!

Kokky gave me an iPhone case! And such a beautiful one :) I love my phone cases and go through so many in such a short time. I really love how pretty this is, with muted colours. Love.

Haul next! Sis brought home makeup goodies from Hong Kong!
Stay tuned for MAC Soft and Gentle MSF, Fairy Drops Mascara, another Dolly Wink liner!

Low and behold, I got quite a lovely surprised from my bf!

He had me scan the QR code which revealed the present – an ice cream machine! What came along was a note book that I can log my ice cream making process and outcomes. Cute.

MAC Hey Sailor! Summer color and Bronzing Collection Party

June 3, 2012

My very first MAC collection event was quite a disappointment. In a tiny country (Singapore) with a whole lot of people and very small MAC stores, collection launches aren't the best things in the world. I was pretty excited to be able to go for the Hey Sailor! collection launch with my friends, expecting quite a good show by such a reputable cosmetics company. Perhaps I was expecting too much but boy was I let down.

The queue was long, but registration was quick and we quickly got into the store. It was really crowded in there, everyone was excited to see the new collection and many were just walking around, touching and swatching the usual stuff. The amount of people were CRAZY. Too many people for such a small small outlet. Not the best idea.

What disappointed us girls was the door gift! We each received a coupon for a complimentary makeover session from MAC (due by the end of the month). Well, we were hoping for better goodies, obviously we were too naive :/

Nonetheless, it was quite the pretty sight, being the sailor theme and all.

Here are some photos!

The collection!

 Sales assistants dressed in theme!
Sailor girls dancing!
Mr Popeye getting 'tattooed'

Too many people, a small outlet, no proper gift, can't go close enough to the new collection. Not even sure I'd like to go for the next launch ><

Still, an experience!

Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner vs. Kiss Me Heroine Make Liquid Liner

May 30, 2012

I have a love/hate relationship with liquid eyeliner. I had never been a user of it until my first one from Kiss Me Heroine Make. The Kiss Me Heroine Make Liquid Liner is the one with the funny crying anime lady on the packaging. Before this venture into liquid liners, I used my pencils and occasionally eye shadows to line my eyes.

Well, the reason for this love/hate relationship was my mediocre skills at applying it. First timers are bound to have some difficulties using liquid liner. They are just too easy to go wrong (and makes you look like crap when they do)! The line was either too crooked or too thick, and it took me some time to find the right look. And I'm kinda glad I did.

My dear friend Fitrina (http://fitrina-inamorata.blogspot.com) was the one that brought me into the world of liquid liners. I have always been amazed how sleek, dark and pretty her eyeliner looked and so I sought advice :p

Remember the very unfortunate incident of me leaving my makeup pouch at the hotel in Genting Highlands? I thought I had lost it forever so I went ahead and bought the Dolly Wink Eyeliner. I heard great things about it (holy grail liquid liner, the best yet.. yadda) and so I set off to find it. It took me quite a long while before I could get my hands on it! It was out of stock for a lot of Watson's outlets. I finally got my hands on it at the Toa Payoh Watson's.

The Comparison

Dolly Wink Liquid liner

Kiss Me Heroine Make liquid liner

Dolly wink vs heroine make liquid eyeliner

Price

Dolly Wink: $24.90
Heroine Make: $18.90

Both bought at Watson's. DW was $6 more expensive and I consider that quite a big difference!

Brush tip

Both brush tips were very similar in terms of texture and thinness. They were capable of making fine lines as well as thick ones. Both liners glide on very smoothly, there is a lot of product in the liners (I've been using them for at least 6 months and they're still very very fluid), and they are very black.
However I noticed, HM removes slightly easier than DW liners. HM was gone with one swipe of a non-oil based makeup remover while DW took at least 2 swipes.

My sister had mentioned that she felt HM flaked a tiny bit easier than DW. I on the other hand, felt no difference.

Heroine Make vs Dolly wink, insignificant differences

Overall feelings

I do think that Dolly Wink is that little tinsy bit better than Heroine Make, but the price is also much pricier. For beginners who want to try out liquid liners, go for the Heroine Make one. It is 1) Easier to find (much, much easier) and 2) Almost identical to the Dolly Wink one.

For those who magically chance upon the Dolly Wink liner, you're quite the lucky person.

Rating

DW: 4.5/5
HM: 4.3/5
