I WANT! Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer + Primer

March 2, 2013

Yesterday, I finally had a chance to try the famous Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. Just gorgeous.

It was a day of prowling and sneaking around as my marketing teammates (including Fitrina) and I visited the Benefit Cosmetics counters around town for our presentation this coming Monday. I was very sure we all looked very suspicious snooping around the counters, trying out products, taking their catalogues and booklets and asking many questions. ><  But it was fun! My knowledge of Benefit has officially hit the roof.

Anyway, whilst we were at the beautiful Benefit counter in TANGS Orchard, Fitrina and I crept towards the Laura Mercier counter instead. From previous experience, LM provided samples for their renowned tinted moisturizer and I was really excited to try them. It was pretty upsetting when they told us that they did not have samples! I was kinda devastated...but I went on to let them try the product on me anyways.

In no time, I was sitting on top of the makeup stool and Emily, one of the make up artist at Laura Mercier began removing the makeup on only half of my face. I had light foundation and concealer on with no blush yesterday. After which, she prepped my skin with the Laura Mercier foundation primer which was slightly orange from the tube but transparent on the skin. It felt like a refreshing cool gel. Then she proceeded to put on a couple of light layers of the tinted moisturizer onto the just prepped skin and it really does feel like a light moisturizer with little to no smell at all. My face was so moist and felt to clean, it was surprising to know that it was makeup!

After the tinted moisturizer, Emily went on to add concealer under my eyes and a touch of blush and translucent powder, which immediately brightened up my complexion. The products set quickly and I was left with a moisturized face and an even skin tone. Officially in love.

The cost of the tinted moisturized was S$68 for 30ml. Primer was S$52 for 30 ml, $34 for 15ml.

Have you tried the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer?

Review: RIMMEL MATCH PERFECTION SPF18

November 9, 2012

RIMMEL – Match Perfection Light perfecting Radiance Foundation SPF18

Updated review can be found down below!

Finally, a foundation with SPF that is not too drying for my skin. I was intrigued by a few good comments on the makeup blogosphere and thought, this could be the one to beat my Healthy Mix (by Bourjois). Asos.com is selling the foundation at about SGD$10, a really good price! I went on and got it immediately. My awesome purchase of the Healthy Mix at SGD$12 from ASOS–best bargain ever.

I was actually really interested in trying out the Wake Me Up foundation, also by Rimmel, as it has been likened to my Healthy Mix! But I had no such fate. :(

Let's get on with it.

RIMMEL MATCH PERFECTION FOUNDATION SOFT BEIGE

The packaging, first and foremost, meh. I dislike foundation bottles that are made out of glass. It is deadweight, and a hassle to carry around but the plus point is its pump. Overall design is minimalistic. The foundation itself is light, as mentioned on the description. It is quite fluid and one full pump brings out a lot of product. I myself managed to use about 3/4 of a full pump for a generally okay coverage.

I have been having a couple of stressful and sleepless weeks because of deadlines and more deadlines! Pardon the death-like before photo ><

RIMMEL MATCH PERFECTION FOUNDATION SOFT BEIGE
Before: a ghostly face. FOTD for school

Ahh, the after photo is much better. Note that I did not choose a darker shade. Perhaps I chose a darker colour? The photos just came out a little different. The foundation felt a little harder to blend into my skin compared to Healthy Mix, it has quite a strong scent, but it just smells like.. foundation. The effect is to my surprise, quite dewy. I had to put some setting powder on to not look too shiny. I felt dewy and a bit oily throughout the day, not sure if its a good thing or not. Will update with more wears.

I used:
Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 200 soft beige
Urban decay 24/7 Eyeliner (Black)
Chanel Poudre Universelle
Sleek Suede Blush

Apologies for the hiatus and thanks for tuning in! :D

Update 2 months in!
I do realize that this foundation oxidizes quite quickly into a more pink undertone. Perhaps I should have gotten a shade lighter! I also feel that the dewiness does not go away throughout the day, leaving my face a tad sticky. I tried powdering it but in hot and humid weather, the foundation tends to feel like its sliding off. Nowadays, I do mix it up with other foundations to get a better match in colour and a slightly less dewy finish. :)

Cheers,
HL

Texture/Payoff: Medium coverage, consistency is just very slightly thicker, but spreads fairly easily.

Shiseido AQUALABEL FOUNDATION OC30

Finish: Leaves a slightly dewy finish, less dewy than Healthy Mix Foundation by Bourjois. And leaves skin looking quite ‘protected’ yet natural.

Rating: 3.8/5

I mix a little of Healthy Mix together with it to bring the colour down and to get a bit more dewy-ness. I like it as of now, possibly also because I got it at a reasonable, reasonable price!

Hopefully I’m happy with it in the long run!

How much does it retail for: S$34.90 (30ml)

How much did I pay it for: £6 (about S$12)

Where did I get it/where can I get it: I bought it on sale from ASOS.com; thankfully it’s the right shade! They have since ran out of 54, damn right should have bought another bottle.

Bourjois is available in major departmental stores in Singapore (Metro, John Little, Robinsons, BHG and others), selective personal care stores (Watsons, Guardian and others).

    What I feel about it:

I have heard many great reviews on this foundation and decided to get it since it was just £6 on ASOS.com. I love that it came with a pump, so no pouring out liquid foundation onto the back of your hand (think Clinique SuperBalanced Makeup). There is also a nifty vacuum pump in the bottle which ensures little wastage (brilliant!)!

Scent: This foundation is scented; the smell is nice and of apricots. However, it’s quite an obvious scent, those who are apprehensive about smells should go check it out at Bourjois counters.

Texture: When pumped out, the foundation is just the right consistency, not too thick and gel-like yet not too thin and watery. I use about a pump and a half on my already moisturised face. It can be worked easily onto slightly moisturised skin with a brush or your fingers. I use ELF’s Flat Top Brush (a winner).

Coverage:The HealthyMix foundation is of medium coverage and easily build-able. Those who look for a light coverage may opt for one pump (or less); for a heavier coverage, just layer more on! Word of caution: do not over apply foundation. (Not that I have tried to, but I personally do not prefer too thick a layer of foundation on the skin!)
This foundation stays relatively well on my skin and lasting almost a whole day out. It may not be that long-living given a humid and sweat-inducing environment.

Finish: It gives a dewy finish, like healthy skin! Not overly glowy as there are not light reflecting particles in it. Great to blend concealer and cream products with! I wear this almost everyday.

Other thoughts: I want to try the Bourjois HealthyMix Serum Foundation!
